Description
The Homesaver Guardian Caps do double duty. First, they give you chimney caps with a screen. This makes them a great choice when installing a chimney liner. Second, they make great replacement caps for solid-pack, factory built chimneys. They secure to both chimney liner and solid-pack, factory built chimneys by sliding inside with a tight friction fit.
All Homesaver Guardian Caps have a 4 5/8″ high collar and come completely assembled. They are available in either 304 alloy or 316 alloy stainless steel in all sizes but the 3″ or 4″ diameters. The 3″ and 4″ diameters are only available in the 316 alloy.
Homesaver Guardian Caps Sizes
Guardian caps are available in 11 different sizes. Determining the size you need is easy. Simply measure the inside diameter of your chimney liner or factory built chimney. That is the size of Guardian Cap you need. These high quality caps are available in 3″ through 12″ diameters. They even include a 5 1/2″ diameter. All Guardian Caps are available with 3/4″ mesh. The smaller 5/8″ mesh is available in the 6″ through 12″ diameters.
Choosing your Homesaver Guardian Caps Mesh
When choosing your mesh for Homesaver Guardian caps, there are two things you need to know. First, the smaller the mesh is the easier it is for the cap to plug up. Second, the chances of your cap plugging up increases with lower temperatures. With this in mind, if you live in an area with cold, snowy weather you want to use the 3/4″ mesh. It is less likely to plug during long, cold winters. The 5/8″ mesh is commonly referred to as the “California Mesh”. You would want to use this mesh if you live in an area that has primarily warm temperatures.
Another nice feature of the Guardian Caps is that the Mesh is removable. If you burn coal or have a problem with constant plugging of your cap, you can easily remove the mesh.
Choosing the Proper Stainless Alloy
When deciding on an alloy for your Homesaver Guardian caps, it is important to know what you will be burning. If the cap will be covering a system that will be burning only wood or a pellet stove, you should select the 304 alloy stainless. When burning wood, coal, oil, or gas, the 316 alloy is the better choice.
