Chimney Liner Components to a Wood Stove | Do It Yourself
In our previous post, we showed you how to choose your chimney liner for your liner kit. Now it’s time to get the chimney liner components for your kit. No matter whether you chose a Homesaver Pro liner or a Homesaver UltraPro Chimney liner, the chimney liner components are the same for both. Your main concern should be to get the proper sized components. You will also need the proper component for the type of reline you are doing. This post will help you to make the right choices.
How to Choose a Tee for Your Chimney Liner Components Kit
When you are installing a chimney liner to a woodstove or a furnace, you will need a tee. The tee is connected to the bottom of the liner. It will make the connection at the chimney thimble to the furnace or woodstove pipe. Each tee has a removable snout which will be removed while you insert the liner down the flue. The tee is attached to the bottom of the liner and the snout reinstalled at the thimble area. You simply place the tee snout into the chimney thimble and run the liner through the stainless steel band on the snout. Finally, tighten the band around the tee to pull the snout snugly into place.
Two styles of tees are available for your chimney liner component kit. A standard tee and a short body tee. The standard tee has a 5″ snout and the short body tee has a 10″ snout. You should measure the length of the current thimble to determine the length of snout you will need. If you need extra length for your snout to clear the chimney facing wall, you can use the Heat Fab Rigid liner sections for added length. These Heat Fab chimney lengths are completely compatible with Homesaver chimney liner components.
You Must Have a Tee Cover
The final chimney liner component you will need for your Tee installation is a Tee Cover. Every installation using a tee must have a Tee Cover. The tee cover is attached securely to the bottom of the tee with screws. You must have a tee cover to create a vacuum inside your liner to make it draft properly. Failure to use a tee cover will more than likely cause your woodstove or furnace to smoke back into the living area when you open the appliance door.

How to Choose a Top Collar Plate for Your Chimney Liner Components Kit
The next chimney liner component you will need is a Top Collar Plate. The top collar plate supports your chimney liner from the top of the chimney. Also, It seals the old chimney flue to keep weather, debris, and animals from entering the chimney system around the outside of your liner.
Top Collar Plates come in 5 sizes with variations for different sized chimney liners. You will need to measure the old flue opening at the chimney top. The Top Collar plate you choose must be large enough to cover the entire flue and extend onto the brick or tile.

How to Choose a Chimney Cap for Your Chimney Liner Components Kit
The last chimney liner component you will need is a chimney cap. A chimney cap will keep weather, debris, birds and other animals from entering your chimney liner. There are two types of caps that are compatible for your Homesaver chimney liner installation. The first is the rain cap for the collar plate. This cap fits down over the the collar on the top collar plate. Once fit into place, it fastens securely with a band connection. The second type of cap is a Guardian Cap. The Guardian Cap is more aesthetic than the collar plate cap. It fits inside the liner and has a snug friction fit. Since the Collar Plate cap is only available in 3″ to 8″ diameters, you will need to use the Guardian Cap along with a few other components for larger diameter chimney liners.
